Why would you think it would fall away if you upgrade again? You still have the pay off the first phone, because you received it back then They do not structure the handset installments over any period other than 24 months, because they cannot predict that you WILL upgrade in 20 or 21 or 22 months' time Now that you know how it works, learn from it and do the next upgrade in month 24, if you don't want to pay two installments simultaneously.

So then by that same token they should only charge me for my new handset for 24 months until april instead of june contract end date? Last edited: Apr 14, So then by that same token they should only charge me for my new handset until april instead of june contract end date?

Joined Feb 4, Messages If you do an upgrade in store there is a part of the new contract with how much is still owed on the previous handset. I did an upgrade yesterday and had to initial. Kick up a fuss and they'll probably add it to the online process. Or maybe not. Lupus Honorary Master. Now the contract is for say R a month while the phone is R a month. The contract can be "upgraded" but the device still needs to be paid off. StrontiumDog Honorary Master. I was only made aware of the dual charge when fetching the new phone the day after ordering the upgrade. This remains to be see, when I get next month's bill. AstroTurf said:. Very sure op was informed but was just not paying attention. Dude, I read through things numerous times before I sign or click on anything I read all terms and conditions thoroughly. So you can have your opinion, but I was paying a hell of a lot of attention, and when upgrading online they do not mention the dual handset fee at all.

By the way, because they have realized this, they've removed the fee from my account. In the past, for years, even decades, it didn't work like that There wasn't a separate device fee even. You could upgrade your contract 3 months early and you just paid the contract price for the next 21 months and then rinse and repeat. So it changed when the regulations changed and they started showing a separate handset fee. Did Vodacom run any advertising campaign about this change or send a letter to all current and former customers expressly about this?

I don't think they did, you are free to proof me wrong and then the OP is unobservant.
