If your computer is recognized by Windows as a portable computer that supports undocking, then Undock appears on this menu. If you computer is not recognized as a computer that supports undocking, then Undock does not appear. After you receive notification that it is safe to do so, undock your portable computer.
I If you have a motorized docking station, your portable computer will undock automatically. Appreciate the information. Problem is, everytime I press undock the computer goes into sleep mode by itself. Is there a way to change this? Thank's for pointing that out for the second time but as PSta stated I do not have this option either I had this issue also but it was more to do with when i re-docked my laptop it would not reconnect to my monitor.
If this is the issue then you just need to change some settings. Both will be defaulted to Sleep which means when you re-dock and close the lid the Laptop goes to sleep. To get around this change both drop down options to " Do Nothing". Now when you re-dock the Laptop it should automatically re-connect to your monitor.
What is the way to check, whatever the computer is ACPI-enabled or not? Any quick hints for that? Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Windows Client. Hardware profiles were removed in Windows Vista. They were designed originally for laptop use with docking stations but people found hardware profiles very useful for general use too.
Unfortunately, they are gone. You can use DevCon which is the command line version of Device Manager. Edit: Btw the DevCon. Doesn't work properly with Windows 7, nor is there an x64 version. Download the latest Windows Driver Kit 7. Ok, I will take hard look at that. While we are on the subject, is there any similar use to just making a separate profile? I did notice, however, that if I disable services in the new profile it copies over those changes to the default profile which is not acceptable for this project.
Thanks all,. IMO hardware profiles were useful as long as you could select them at boot. Windows Vista removed that. Technically, they still exist. It is however possible to manually create a second profile by editing the registry. Open the exported. Then import the modified. Edit the exported. Again edit and replace all occurences of a with X. Subsequently modify the last digit of HwProfileGuid in your exported. Warning: The new HwProfileGuid has to be unique. To check this do a search for it in the registry first.
Describes the best practices, location, values, policy management, and security considerations for the Remove computer from docking station security policy setting.
This security setting determines whether a user can undock a portable device from its docking station without logging on.
This policy setting only affects scenarios that involve a portable computer and its docking station. Otherwise, as a security measure, the user will not be able to log on after the device is removed from the docking station. If this policy is not assigned, the user may remove the portable device from its docking station without logging on, and then have the ability to start and log on to the device afterwards in its undocked state.
Although this portable device scenario does not normally apply to servers, by default this setting is Administrators on domain controllers and on stand-alone servers. The following table lists the actual and effective default policy values. Any change to the user rights assignment for an account becomes effective the next time the owner of the account logs on.
Settings are applied in the following order through a Group Policy Object GPO , which will overwrite settings on the local computer at the next Group Policy update:. This section describes how an attacker might exploit a feature or its configuration, how to implement the countermeasure, and the possible negative consequences of countermeasure implementation.
